DISPATCH #04

Good morning Crew,

Due to the rain last week, several holiday events were rescheduled to this week so if you thought you missed them, you may get a second chance. Be sure and check out this week’s events calendar below. Enjoy the read!

TODAY’S CATCH

Main Dish

Nick Saban may be off the sidelines, but he’s not done making big plays. He and his wife Terry have joined an Alabama-based investor group to buy the iconic Perdido Beach Resort, a Gulf Coast favorite since 1987 and home to countless family vacations and beach weddings. The new owners say they’ll preserve its legacy while elevating the guest experience. Meanwhile, long-time patrons are already hitting up the resort’s Facebook page and asking the new owners to keep things just as they are.

Alabama-based Aurora Hospitality Partners will manage the day-to-day operations. The property features 338 rooms, over 43,000 square feet of event and meeting space, and four food and beverage outlets. The resort is currently closed for its usual December maintenance and will reopen under the new ownership on December 30, 2025.

Locals are applauding the sale, happy the resort is staying in the hands of Alabamians, ready for future generations of beachgoers to enjoy. Expect the same beautiful beachfront views and familiar comfort, with a little Saban polish sprinkled in. No word yet on whether he’ll let you shower longer than 5 minutes. High Tide!

Small Bites

  • In Gulf Shores, the drama isn’t on the beach, it’s on the sidewalks. Gulf Shores Police Department says the growing chaos between e-bikers, pedestrians and traditional cyclists feels more like high-stakes turf warfare, comparing e-bikers to the Crips and pedestrians to the Bloods. To cool things off, the city is mulling over two ordinances that would strictly regulate rentals, require helmets, limit throttle speeds and institute mandatory safety training for renters. So if you’re pedaling through Gulf Shores, take it easy… no one wants to get flattened on their way to grab a snow cone. Slow it down

  • Fish River Trees in Summerdale is in full holiday swing through December 21, offering one of its biggest and best tree harvests yet, from charming tabletop pines to towering 13-foot beauties. Families can wander the fields to choose and cut their favorite, pick a Living Christmas Tree to plant later or grab a fresh fir or snowy flocked tree for that classic holiday look. Weekends turn the farm into a little winter wonderland, complete with Tannebaum Express train rides, camel and pony rides, a live-animal manger scene and special visits from Santa. It’s the kind of place where picking out a tree becomes a whole Christmas memory-making experience. Ho ho ho!

  • Construction on the new Gulf Shores Pedestrian Bridge is moving ahead on schedule, with major foundation work now completed on both the north and south sides. Crews have poured key bridge and elevator tower foundations and begun forming new curbs and roadway sections as part of the surrounding streetscape improvements. The city says everything’s still on schedule, so with a little more patience (and maybe a few less orange cones), Gulf Shores will soon have a bridge that makes walking across the ICW a whole lot easier. Work zone ahead

BEST CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

If you’re looking to soak up a little Gulf Coast Christmas magic, I’ve rounded up some of the best light displays around the area, from quiet, twinkly neighborhoods to over-the-top spectacles Clark Griswold would be proud of. And yes, the Snook house on George Younce Road made the list, because it’s not just a holiday display — it’s a rite of passage.

I’ve put all the locations on a Google map so you can easily get directions and plan your route. If you know any great spots that aren’t on the list, reply and I’ll get them added. So load the family up in the car, grab some hot cocoa and go make a night of it!
