Neighboring fire departments rushed in to help Gulf Shores after a fire started behind Waterville and quickly spread. From Fort Morgan to Fairhope to Robertsdale to Perdido Beach, and lots of communities in between, help poured in from all around the coast. Over 20 outside agencies responded, including an ALEA helicopter flown in from Montgomery to help douse the flames. Officials believe the fire started when a tree fell across a power line. Roads were closed in the heart of Gulf Shores and Spring Break visitors trying to get to the beach were forced to take the long way around through Orange Beach.
