DISPATCH #23

Good morning Crew,

Spring Break is now in the rear view mirror. The crowds have left the beach, the restaurants aren’t near as busy, and the traffic has mostly dissipated. It’s that time of year when the coast takes in a deep breath and exhales slowly… it’s the calm before the storm.

TODAY’S CATCH

  • If you’ve ever thought, “You know what this beach day needs? Throwing a dead fish as far as I can,” then the Flora-Bama Mullet Toss is calling your name. This legendary tradition is happening this weekend, Friday through Sunday—inviting folks to step into the sand, grab a mullet (the fish, not the haircut), and launch it across the state line for bragging rights. It’s part competition, part beach party, and 100% the kind of weird fun that only makes sense at the Flora-Bama. flying fish

  • Gulf Shores has updated its golf cart rules, now allowing all licensed drivers and even those with learners permits (with an adult over 21 riding shotgun) to cruise around in designated areas. Previously, you had to be 18 to take the wheel — now it’s a little more relaxed, and more in line with regular driving laws. So if you spot a slightly nervous youngster gripping the wheel a little tighter than usual… just remember, we all had to start somewhere. golf cart changes

  • Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple’s CEO after 15 years. Wait, why is this in a newsletter about the Alabama Gulf Coast? Well, Tim Cook actually got his start right here in Baldwin County — a Robertsdale High grad who once worked at a local drugstore and played in the marching band. He later graduated from Auburn University with a degree in industrial engineering. Under Cook’s leadership, Apple grew over 1,000% to a $4 trillion company. It’s a pretty wild reminder that one of the most influential business leaders in the world came from a small town right here in south Alabama. Alabama son

UNTIL NEXT TIME…

That’s the rundown for this week. Hope you find a reason to get out and enjoy the coast. It’s the perfect window to enjoy an early morning walk on the beach or revisit a favorite restaurant that’s normally too crowded. Have a wonderful week and may God bless you and your crew!
