Swarms of honeybees have recently been spotted in both Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, including one that decided a beach umbrella looked like the perfect pit stop. Local beekeepers say it's actually a good sign—the swarms are made up of healthy colonies taking advantage of late-blooming coastal plants before moving on to find a new home. The good news is experts safely relocated the bees. Sometimes you just have to let nature do its thing. beach buzz
There's a new spot to grab lunch in Orange Beach. Mediterranean Sandwich Co. has officially opened in The Commons shopping center, bringing its popular gyros, paninis, fresh-made soups, and signature flatbread sandwiches to the coast. If you're feeling a little adventurous, the menu even features a "Redneck Gyro," topped with Conecuh sausage, smoked gouda, and Cajun tzatziki. That's about as Gulf Coast as the Mediterranean can get! new lunch spot
A couple of local restaurants are saying goodbye. After operating Portabella's in Foley for the past several years and opening Safari & Vine at the Gulf Coast Zoo this spring, the owners announced that both restaurants have closed, citing financial challenges. They thanked customers and staff for their support and said they're proud of the memories created along the way. It's always tough to see local businesses close their doors, and we wish them nothing but the best in whatever comes next. turning the page
